
About the Forum
The 2025 edition of the newly established ‘Sharjah Human Development Forum’ will be held under the theme “Humanity & Heritage in Palestine”.
The event, set to take place on the 19th of November, will feature a high-profile panel discussion featuring esteemed international guests to discuss topics tied to the current humanitarian situation in Palestine and threats to Palestinian identity and cultural heritage.
The topic more specifically will revolve around challenges relating to preservation of Palestinian culture, art, heritage, and other related issues. The event will also serve as a platform for dialogue, inspiration, and actionable insights into humanitarian and philanthropic work.
About the Jawaher Al Qasimi Chair in Palestinian Studies
As a key tangible outcome of this event, we will announce the initial establishment of The Jawaher Al Qasimi Chair in Palestinian Studies at the University of Sharjah (UoS) for a period not exceeding 3 years. The chair will foster academic excellence, facilitate dialogue and collaboration with institutions in Palestine and across the world, and produce innovative film, media, art, literature, and research to deepen understanding of Palestine’s historical, economic, and cultural dynamics. The chair will also serve as the foundation for the establishment of a Centre for Palestinian Studies with the aim is to create an interdisciplinary hub for academic research in fields that include history, literary studies, art, social sciences, sustainable development and culture in Palestine.
About The Palestine Legacy Fund
The Sharjah Human Development Forum will include the announcement of the Palestine Legacy Fund, a charitable fund under UoS to:
- Provide scholarships for displaced Palestinian students at UoS
- Fund research, projects (grants, film and book production and publications, etc) and events (conferences, seminars, cultural events, fundraising, etc) tied to the Chair in collaboration with universities in Palestine
- Engaging students through graduate research on philanthropic themes
The event will also host a 3-week exhibition showcasing Palestinian culture and heritage in collaboration with Sharjah Art Foundation and other Palestinian organisations based in the UAE.
