Irthi Contemporary Cra¬s Council alongside sustainability and cultural specialists will discuss the significance of UAE’s environment and indigenous flora in representing the culture of Emiratis today. As many natural recourses are used by the artisans to create cra¬s in the Arabian Peninsula, most of the gulf countries used the date palm across a range of disciplines. The Council is currently working on innovating the cra¬ of Safeefah by testing new ways of extracting fibres from the palm fronds (khose). Innovations in heritage cra¬s require new processes of treating traditional and local materials, ultimately to sustain and advance the cra¬, textile and design industries. For this reason, the Irthi team and invited panellists, will discuss the Council’s process and findings further through this panel.
